Water main flushing occurs in the spring and/or Fall. Beaverfalls Water Works District will issue an alert to inform ratepayers when this will be happening. Flushing water mains is carried out as part of an annual scheduled preventative maintenance program to improve water quality by removing sediment that gradually deposits in the pipes and to help maintain safe high quality water. Mainline flushing also reduces bacteriologial growth, improves color, control corrosion and helps to restore flow and pressure in the distribution system.
There should be no interruption of the water supply. During a period of several days, there may be a taste and smell of chlorine in the water. We add enough chlorine to the water to keep it safe. You can easily get rid of the chlorine taste by filling a container with water and keeping it in the refrigerator for drinking-much of the chlorine will leave the water overnight.
If you have any questions or if you experience any persistant water quality problems as a result of this maintenance program, please call our office at 250-367-0255 or our Water Operator at 250-304-9446 or email us at [email protected].
